Nikkei at 3-month closing high on US economy hopes

TOKYO, April 3 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 0.3 percent to a three-month closing high on Friday, boosted by increasing optimism about the U.S. economy and active foreign buying of blue-chip exporters such as Sony Corp.
The yen's retreat, which at one point saw the dollar bounce above 100 yen, lifted car companies such as Toyota Motor Corp , while domestic demand shares such as pharmaceuticals lost ground.
The benchmark Nikkei rose 30.06 points to 8,749.84, its highest close since Jan. 9, and marked its fourth straight positive week -- a run not seen since December.
